Hey girl, hey!
So many people have asked, "Elle, why did you name the blog "Girlfriend's", Budget!? What about the fellas?" Look... when I first thought of blogging, I knew immediately that I wanted to market my posts towards women. In my humble opinion, women are some of the most remarkable beings walking planet earth. We work, cook, do laundry, make time for our significant others, take care of the kids, do the dishes, give advice to our girlfriends, go to school, handle household crisis, pay bills and so much more… all while still maintaining our fly.
However, as remarkable as we are… many of us still struggle financially to make ends meet, pay down our debts, and build up our savings accounts. In most cases, it’s definitely not due to lack of work ethic, but more so a lack of discipline and financial education. A survey done by Financial Finesse shows the eye-opening stats on how women perform with money versus men.
Let’s touch on a few of them... shall we?
Only 51% of women feel they have a handle on their money management skills and spend less money than they make versus 71% of men. In addition, merely 74% of women actually pay their bills on time each month versus the 90% of men who do (Whoa, did you read that? Read it one more time).
Furthermore, just 36% of women say they pay off their credit card bill each month versus 61% of men. And here’s the biggest shocker…. Only 34% of women say they have an emergency fund to cover household bills for a few months versus 53% of men (*Faints*).
Girlfriends, if we looked at these percentages as if we were looking at a child's grades (or your own grades for that matter), we would be failing miserably! We are way too great to have our financial statistics be so low... hence the reason why I decided to blog for women. My goal is to empower and transform the mindset of women everywhere to realize that our greatness can and should radiate into our finances. Do you know how powerful we would be if we all had our finances in check? (Collectively and Individually. Think about it!) All it takes is discipline, some financial education (where I come in) and organization to get ourselves to where we need to be.
And to the guys who read Girlfriend's, Budget!, I salute you (no pun intended)! It's refreshing to see men further educate themselves on the matter of finances no matter what the blog is called. The mere fact that you're here, reading this blog, knowing you need the financial help as well... is highly commendable!
So if this is your first time visiting Girlfriend’s, Budget!, have a look around the site and feel free to browse through some of my previous post. And ladies, today... let’s make a pact to financially be better, do better, and live in our greatness! (Hands In!)
(In my Beyoncé voice)…. “Who run the world…Girls!”
